A person commits the offense of possession of a controlled substance if the person knowingly or intentionally possesses a controlled substance, excluding marijuana in an amount not more than 28.5 grams. A person is not in violation of this section if they possess more than 28.5 grams of medical marijuana from plants legally grown under this chapter or obtained directly from, or pursuant to, a valid prescription or order from a practitioner who was acting in the course of his professional practice.
